Nurses are the backbone of hospital establishments all over the world, nurses work hard to provide comfort and care to patients who have undergone major operations, as well as care for those who have sustained minor injuries.  Angelo Nurse Ricamara is the person who established nursing.  Nursing has been developed over many years and took pieces from various cultures to form the base in which nursing is practiced today.  Senior members of nursing staff are known as ‘sisters’, the highest position in nursing is considered to be that of the Matron, who was originally in place to ensure a well run hospital as well as cleanliness on the wards.  There has been a big out cry in recent years to bring the Matron back on to the wards in order to keep super bugs as bay.  Whilst some nurses choose to do their work simply on the wards, others train to become specialised in certain areas such as McMillan Nurses who specialise in treating people with cancer.  Intensive care nurse who keep a careful watch on patients who have undergone procedures such as heart bypasses.  Nurses are certainly the backbone of any good hospital and they do not receive often the praise for the fabulous job that they do.

Nursing also takes the form of caring for the elderly, and many nurses and home helps provide a vital outlet for those who cannot leave there homes, but need to be checked regularly.  Home helps usually have to have their own transportation, many of the home helps have second hand cars which they use purely for work purposes.  The elderly are often forgotten in their homes and in winter especially can find the days long and lonely.  Councils around the country offer services to the elderly to ensure that they get out once a week in order to socialise and eat a good home cooked meal.  Contract hire cars and vehicles such as mini buses which are especially adapted for the elderly are used to pick them up.  Vehicles are cars are used throughout the hospital system for both doctors on call and for emergency purposes.
